Art - The Old Forest - Linda Hoyland

Artist: Linda Hoyland
Title: Deep in the Forest
Rating: G
Theme: Art challenge
Element:
Media: photograph
Artist's Notes: If I could draw or word with something like Photoshop, I would illustrate Aragorn healing Faramir. As I am limited to photos of trees, here is the Old Forest.

Looking ahead they could see only tree-trunks of innumerable sizes and shapes: straight or bent, twisted, leaning, squat or slender, smooth or gnarled and branched; and all the stems were green or grey with moss and slimy, shaggy growths.

Ooooh, look at the roots ready to move and trip unwary hobbit feet!

You really do have to watch your feet there!

Ooh, I can just imagine the hobbits' state of mind as they enter there: it's just plain scary looking, and relief, because obviously it is going to be really hard for an enemy to follow them in...they'd really be torn...

Very good way to choose the quotation for the subject, rather than the other way round!

Thank you for joining the challenge!

(edited because another chapter was totally on my mind! But it's still perfect!)

I'm pleased you liked this and it worked for you. I hope it might inspire some of the excellent Hobbit writers here.
Thank you for having me in an art challenge!

Those work really well for the passage - I don't think they need figures photoshopping in.

Nice photos. And that moss does look rather shaggy indeed.

How perfect for the Old Forest! Here the trees would be Douglas Fir, alder, Western hemlock, vine maple, and red cedar predominantly, and the ground would be covered by slender wild blackberry vines, wild strawberries, bluebell hyacinths, sheep sorrel, and a variety of ferns, with Pacific dogwood, red and blue huckleberries, and pale lilac rhododendrons on the edges of the forest.

Thank you, I'm so pleased this fitted your mental image. Your forests sound lovely and very different to ours.
