This is a challenge community for Lord of the Rings Fanfiction and Fanart. We hold fic challenges every month and art challenges every other month. We also accept fanworks based on any of Tolkien's other Arda-based books including, but not limited to, The Hobbit, The Silmarillion, Unfinished Tales, The History of Middle-earth, and The Children of Hurin.

Each month, the fanfiction Challenge will have a common theme, and participating authors will be assigned individualized elements to incorporate into their stories.

Every other month, the art challenge will have a common theme and participating artists may be assigned individualized elements to incorporate into their work. Art may be in any media: traditional, digital, photography, photo-manips, sculpture or other arts or crafts.

To receive your elements, you may e-mail the mods, or you may comment on the post announcing the challenge.

It's time for the Spring Comment Challenge!

This is when we encourage our readers to leave feedback at Many Paths to Tread, the archive of this community and of the LOTR GFIC Community. Last year our spring and summer comment challenges were very popular and a lot of fun! As with those challenges, a banner and icon will be awarded for participants.

Take Five

The challenge this spring is to do five comments at Many Paths to Tread:

(1) Five stories by authors you've never read
(2) Five stories in a genre or form that you don't usually read
(3) Five stories based on sources you don't usually read
(4) Five stories about races you don't usually read
(5) Five stories about characters you've never read about before

You can do all five in the same category, or mix the categories up for a total of five.

Of course, if you decide you want to do more than five, that's great too!

Just read and comment at the archive, and when you have finished your goal, you can leave a comment on this post, telling which five stories you chose. The ending deadline is May 16, but you may post about your comments at any time between now and then.
