Climbing by Antane

Author: Antane
Title: Climbing
Element: up, down
Rating: G
Summary: Frodo and a mountain. My first drabble!

Frodo stared up the mountain looming far above, its top hidden by clouds. He saw superimposed upon it, the mountain of Fire Sam had carried him up which he knew he must climb down if he had any hope of healing. He looked around him. Bilbo, Gandalf, Celebrian and others he sensed but could not see stood around him and smiled. “It’s so high,” he breathed, then with the same determination in which he had set out to complete his first Quest, he began his ascent - and his descent. He did not climb alone.

At least he did find his healing at the last. He climbed and descended safely, and well into healing this time! Lovely!

Le hannon! Healing is coming at long last, even if that journey is just as hard as the one that cause the need of it. I read your story here but was confused by the last sentence so didn't comment.

Namarie, God bless, Antane :)

I think the thing I like the most about this one is your idea that a part of Frodo never really left that mountain and has been waiting all this time for him to be ready to. Nice first drabble!

Le hannon, my dear - so glad you stopped by and enjoyed! It may develop one day into much more.

A wonderful drabble! Very good indeed. I love the metaphor of the mountain.

Le hannon, my dear! I started getting ideas just about the moment you gave me the elements and it was a lot easier to do than I thought! :)

I love the idea that Bilbo did not climb alone and that there are some with him who are in as much need of healing as he was. Gandalf, in particular, was a fascinating addition to this group that is going both up and down. I wonder if he's there for support, healing, or a little of both. Any might fit the bill.

Glad you enjoyed! I had not thought that Bilbo would be in need of healing himself but of course he would. I think he was really there to support his beloved lad, as they are were, but I like the idea that he needs to do it for himself as well. I'll have to remember that if and when this develops into a much larger tale. Thanks for the bunny, even if you didn't know you were providing it! :)

I like how Frodo doesn't have to climb this mountain alone and how he remembers and compares it to the last mountain he went up.

Le hannon and glad you enjoyed! I'm happy too that he is surrounded by those who love him because it would be hard indeed to climb this height on one's own.

I like the sense of him finally overcoming all the hurts associated with that first mountain. Nicely done.

At least he has started to, but it's going to be a long climb! Glad you enjoyed. :)

High as this particular mountain is, the road is bound to be easier than Mount Doom.
Nov. 20th, 2010 10:19 pm (UTC)
Wouldn't that be nice! But I don't know about that, I imagine it's going to be just as arduous but in different ways. Yet he will overcome. Sam will see a marvel when he comes! :)

Thank you! So glad you enjoyed! Hopefully it's actually the beginning of a long tale when I find the time to write it!
