It has come to my attention that there are some slight differences between word counts generated on the MPTT archive and those generated by MS Word or by a hand count. The difference tends to be slight: only a few words. For most stories, this is not much of an issue, but for fixed-length stories, such as drabbles, where the goal is to achieve a pre-determined word count, even being one word off is problematic.
The software we use generates word counts slightly differently than MS Word does, which can result in inconsistencies between the two. Unfortunately, this is not something that we can change, and it is a problem common to not just MPTT but all sites that use this software package.
If your story is intended to meet a fixed word count, I would suggest including the final word count in the Chapter Notes. These notes will not only show at the top of the chapter but will also show on the Table of Contents beneath the title for that chapter, where the reader can see your word-count goal before clicking on the story.
Secondly, our webhost has scheduled site maintenance for August 28. This maintenance will require them to take down the site for about an hour. They expect to complete their work between 7 and 9 a.m. GMT. If you notice the site is still down or is not working properly after that time, please let one of the admins know at email@example.com or firstname.lastname@example.org.
Thank you and may the muses smile upon you! :)
