Art: Smaug by Dreamflower

Artist: Dreamflower
Title: Smaug
Rating: G
Theme: Miniature
Element: something tiny
Media: Polymer clay, embossing powder
Artist's Notes: "Smaug" is created from black Sculpey™ with red for eyes and tongue, and brushed with metallic embossing powders in two shades of gold, and in copper. He measures 1½" by 2½". My apologies for the size of the last two pictures, but I could not get them to post from LJ scrapbook and had to use Photobucket.

"There he lay, a vast red-golden dragon, fast asleep; a thrumming came from his jaws and nostrils, and wisps of smoke, but his fires were low in slumber...(The Hobbit, Chapter XII, "Inside Information")

I adore this! I wanted to buy a stuffed Smaug a few years back that the Metropolitan museum, but it was a little too pricey.

From exhibition of "Dragons,Unicorns and Mermaids":

I like your Smaug better and the book is gorgeous. I love your pictures.

Oh, he is too cute to be a villain! *grin* I've seen some adorable stuffed dragons-- usually meant to be "Pernese" dragons rather than Middle-earthy ones!

Glad you liked my version--took three tries to get one I liked well enough to photograph; I thought my hb copy of TH would be a good backdrop for him. And then it took me ages to get the pictures posted!!

Just think-- if the real Smaug had been that small, he would have been much easier for the Dwarves to deal with! ;-)

He's so cute! Nice work.

All these comments about wee cute Smaug make me think that would be a great parody fic (or better, cartoon), with Smaug as a little chibi dragon and for some weird reason everyone is terrified of him anyway.

Polymer is an art form that I just don't do well in. He's quite lovely and I'm quite envious at your skill in this media.

I love polymer clay-- it's my second favorite craft after calligraphy. I'm not really *that* good at it-- it took me three tries to get this little fellow right! Still, he did come out right in the end.

Oh, I'm hopeless at calligraphy too - LOL. I guess I know who to contact when I need advice about poly or pretty graphics :-)

That's impressive. Nice work, B!

Also: I got a chuckle at your first picture and the problems with size. A miniature of a miniature, p'raps?

LOL! Yep, exactly. *giggle*

I have no idea why LJ scrapbook would not put those pics into the entry-- I had no trouble with the Hollin one. *shakes head*
