"Finrod's Promise" by Himring

Author: Himring
Title: Finrod's Promise
Rating: PG
Theme: Poetry 2013
Elements: "Namarie"
Author's Notes: This is a re-write of Galadriel's "Namarie" (the English version), with a few phrases borrowed from "Winter comes to Nargothrond" and one phrase taken from Frodo's dream in the house of Tom Bombadil. Probably something like this has been done before. I hope it is acceptable for the challenge, although strictly speaking it is not exactly a new poem.
Dedicated to Oshun as a belated birthday gift.
Summary: Finrod Felagund is more optimistic than his sister Galadriel. It is up to the reader to decide who he is addressing.
Word Count: 119 words

You will see Valinor; even you will see Valinor.
Although the Kindler from Mount Everwhite
has uplifted her hands like clouds—even though
all paths be drowned deep in shadow—
Valimar is not lost to those from the East.
You shall see Valinor. Even you shall see it!
Although darkness lie on the warring seas,
mist will not veil the Pass of Light for ever.
Although the leaves fall fallow-gold
through numberless years, shifting and drifting,
you shall see Valinor—you shall—
the far green country under the swift sunrise.
Together we, beneath the blue vaults of Varda,
will see stars tremble in the queenly song of her voice
-- and I, I will refill the cup for you.

How beautiful a wish for that return to the bliss of a far more innocent time and place.

Thank you very much!
It is a wish for return certainly, but not a wish to turn back time--after all, this is Valinor under the Sun, not Valinor at the Time of the Trees--it is the Valinor that Frodo saw.

The concept of hope expressed here is a lovely beacon.

Thank you, Erulisse!
I tried to write it in a way so that it could be a promise of hope to anyone who needed it and still feel like a personal promise by Finrod himself.

Oh, I just love this! What a beautiful and hopeful "re-mix"!

(And yes, it's a new poem in its own right!)

Thank you!

I'm pleased that you think it is new and even more that you like its hopefulness!

This is beautiful. I like the bold certainty of Finrod's optimism and the way you worked in the lines from the other sources is seamless. I love this.

Thank you very much! The Nargothrond poem seemed to blend in quite easily, despite the difference in metre, as it used related imagery, but I did want that phrase from Frodo's dream as well. The poem is a deliberate cross-over between First Age and Third Age--although that's not so remarkable because of course the Professor himself was doing that all the time!

I just now saw this! What a surprise and thank you so much. It's lovely. I am all about never losing hope and so is Finrod. I'll take it! Love the remixes.

I'm glad you like it, Oshun! Yes, optimism and hope, that is what I associate with you and with Finrod, both of you. Also, because you are really engaging with poetry month, this year, I thought you might like a poem, even if it's nothing like that impressive selection of world literature you've been posting!

It's a wonderful poem.

Very nice! I love the hope in it. Whether it is addressed to Galadriel or Frodo, either way is beautiful. :)

Namarie, God bless, Antane :)
