Storm Child

“Elrohir? You up here?” Elladan’s voice sounded faintly up the curved stairs of the highest tower in Imladris.

Elrohir leaned against the decorative railing, the wind tangling his hair with its gusts and his arms outstretched. He faced the storm, eyelids fluttering as the angry clouds blew into the valley.

The brothers had been tracking deer through the forest. They was no need for the meat, but they hadn’t been out of the settled part of the Valley for several months and they wanted to keep their survival skills honed and sharp.

Elladan had first noticed the change in the wind. “A storm is blowing in, brother, and quickly. I’m not of a mind to get wet today when there’s no need to shiver under a soaking wet cloak. What say we head back and stay dry this time?”

Elrohir had agreed, the tall tower’s walkway already the goal in his mind. Since he had been a small child, he had loved thunderstorms and extreme weather. He still remembered the beauty of a waterspout they had seen one summer while aiding the Dúnedain in the far north. The various cloud formations over the lands of Middle-earth fascinated him where Elladan could care less.

Now, as his brother climbed the stairs to join him, Elrohir’s face filled with joy as the shelf cloud blew in and fat drops of rain began to fall. Raising his arms, he laughed as he leaned into the strong winds. He felt as if he could almost fly from the tower heights.

A really nice look at the differences between the twins, and yet show their closeness as well.

Thanks so much. I think the personalities of the twins are quite different, although they will back each other up against any foe. This look at a wilder Elrohir is closer to my own love of storms and winds.

What wonderful imagery. It's lovely to experience scenes like this that teach us more about the characters.

I adore storms. I suppose I let my own love influence my character in this story :-) Thank you so much for your comments.

I love storms, so one of the twins just had to feel like I do when I face that amazing power.

Thanks :-)

How closely does Elrohir seem to resemble the storm in this!
