Waiting and Worriting
Mrs. Maggot bustled about the room, supervising the after-meal cleanup. Yet, even as she worked, her ear was bent, listening for the sound of the cart in the lane.  Now and then, she opened the door to look out, but a dense fog blanketed the yard.

At last her vigilance was rewarded and Farmer Maggot clumped into the kitchen, throwing down his hat on the broad table.

"Where have you been?" she exclaimed, hands on hips. "Thought for sure you'd gone and drove yourself into the ditch in this fog."

"Truly, 'twas slow goin', Mother. I knew you'd be worriting!  Draw me a pint and I'll tell you the tale..."

I haven't read this Tolkien story. I knew it existed, but where can I read it?

If you are referring the story that contains Farmer Maggot's comment about his wife "worriting", it is from the book Fellowship of the Ring/i>, Chapter 4 ("Shortcut to Mushrooms"). Farmer Maggot delivers Frodo and his friends to the Bucklebury Ferry to help them avoid the Black Riders. It's skipped over in the movies, alas!

Oh, I have read the Hobbit twice, I just didn't remember him, though I started to think he might be in the Hobbit after I posted this. =)

It's actually in LOTR in Fellowship. As Lin indicates, it's a part of the book that was skipped in the movie--Maggot, like Tom Bombadil, didn't get even a mention in the films. I always loved where Frodo finds that Missus Maggot had sent a pot of mushrooms for him to take with him and names her a queen amongst Hobbits.

Oh, but the perfect conversation for this pair. Bless Missus Maggot for her worry!

Good that he got home safe and nice to see it from Mrs Maggot's point of view.
