Waiting and Worriting
Mrs. Maggot bustled about the room, supervising the after-meal cleanup. Yet, even as she worked, her ear was bent, listening for the sound of the cart in the lane.  Now and then, she opened the door to look out, but a dense fog blanketed the yard.

At last her vigilance was rewarded and Farmer Maggot clumped into the kitchen, throwing down his hat on the broad table.

"Where have you been?" she exclaimed, hands on hips. "Thought for sure you'd gone and drove yourself into the ditch in this fog."

"Truly, 'twas slow goin', Mother. I knew you'd be worriting!  Draw me a pint and I'll tell you the tale..."
