The Sweetest Song

Author: Linda Hoyland
Title: The Sweetest Song
Rating: G
Theme: January Potluck Challenge, Nightingale
Summary: Arwen ponders her future.

The moon shone brightly illuminating Arwen’s path as she strolled through the gardens. In a nearby tree a nightingale sang sweetly.

Arwen felt a sudden pang. Would there be songbirds in her new home, or even trees? Tomorrow she would leave Imladris, perhaps never to return. How she would miss the beloved places she had dwelled throughout her long life.

Yet, soon she would have a new home, one with the man who had won her heart. Together they would raise a family. Her new life was just beginning. The song of love was sweeter even than the nightingale’s melody.

I love the use of the nightingale in this-- it ties back so wonderfully to Luthien, and helps to show the connection Arwen had with her ancestress.

Yes, she will miss her original home--and I love how it all comes down to that last sentence!

Ah--we were both drawn to Arwen and the nightingale! Wonderful! So perfect! And this is so likely--so likely a scenario as she prepares for her new married life. Lovely, Linda!

This is lovely; and her decision can't have been easy, but she made the right choice.

No, I'm afraid not. I nicked it off the internet. :D
